Video Story – Draft

I am so excited to share my rough draft video that I have been working on. I knew that I wanted to relate my video to what my topic has become which is my sorority Alpha Delta Pi. I took a lot of videos of different things around my chapter house that would allow for me to use voice over and explain further in depth the wonderful sisterhood that is Alpha Delta Pi.

When filming I tried to be steady with the camera which at times did not necessarily work out, but it worked out! I also tried to take short clips, around 10 seconds, from interesting angles. I thought this wold add some interest to very simple shots. If clips were either too long or short I simply used the rate stretch tool.

I added a song I found on sound cloud with creative commons to the background of the entire video. I only put the images from my video clips and not the audio since the audio was mostly just background noise and vacuum cleaners since I did a lot of my filming during an all house cleaning hour to make sure everything was clean.

For the final video I plan to add transitions between shots as well as more effects. For the draft I simply wanted to have a good foundation to build from. I also really wanted to have some outside input on what may make my video stronger from my classmates, any and all constructive suggestions are both welcomed and encouraged! Thanks for watching and reading!

Hey Madeline! Wow, seriously great video! I really like the videography that you implemented in your shooting. What you’ve done, in my opinion, is create the ideal modern-themed video tour. Your mix of mostly still and yet slightly wobbly fixed camera and slow pan shots are really what’s ‘in’ right now in vlog-type videos of this nature. I’m actually really impressed to see this technique being used. You’ve also nicely matched the audio with the footage. One popular theme with this genre of video is to add instrumental music similar to what you have. Seriously, great job with that! If I were to critique this video, I would suggest that you level out the voice-over so that it’s balanced throughout the video. The other thing I would suggest is that you go easy on the transitions. I see that you’ve written about adding them for the final video, which is great but do note that videos in this genre tend to shy away from transitions for the most part and what you have already is almost ideal. Be sure to note that in your write-up of the final production, as they will probably be wondering why the video doesn’t have many transitions. If you have a stylistic reason for this, it should not be a problem (if it is, be sure to contact the professor and fight for it because it is an established artistic style in popular videos). Overall, Madeline, great video! I’m excited to come back and view the final version.

Hello there Madeline I am JJ and I am here to critique you draft video story that you have submitted for this class. I really liked how you went through and did this video, it was really nicely put together and it was a nice topic to talk about. I like how well you blended this entire video and how your transitions were really nice. This was a very nicely made video. I don’t really have much to critique due to the fact you made an extraordinary video and it was very well put together. You have such a good connection with your topic I am sure that it made it easy for you to make this. I am really excited to see what you are going to do for your final story, with how good you did this one I cannot imagine what you final one will look like.

Hi Madeline! You did a great job with your video. My favorite thing was definitely your topic and everything that was said about your sorority. I can tell you put in a lot of hard work and spent a lot of time on it. The video started out with a very clear, strong voice. And the pronunciation was excellent. After that things changed. I am not sure if that was your voice the whole time or if you maybe interviewed some of your sisters as well, but the sound quality changed pretty often and at times it wasn’t very clear. Also, the speaking was a little slow, but I assume this was in order to get good pronunciation. So I’m not sure if that something you want to change or not. Overall, you did a great job and it flowed very nicely. Good work!

Overall I am really proud of the work that I have done. I feel that I was able to fully communicate information about my sorority as well as my personal views on Alpha Delta Pi. One thing I know I will work on more is the title sequence and the credits. I want to make them more visually appealing as well as have them make a statement about the video that my viewers are about to see, especially on the first title sequence. I feel very confident that I will be able to make sufficient changes to my video in order to make it just the way I want. I also plan to record the voice overs again since the audio I have in my draft if from two separate days, one of which I had a cold. I plan to also lower the music levels when I am speaking so that my voice can be heard more clearly.
